Thanksgiving just passed, and if you’re anything like me, your heart is full, and maybe your belly too. The pies, the laughter, the family gathered around the table… it’s all a sweet reminder of God’s goodness. But maybe somewhere between the leftovers and the reflection, you felt that quiet nudge again – the one that whispers, “It’s time to take care of your health. It’s time to figure out what’s really going on.”
If you’ve been walking through infertility, recurrent miscarriage, or just that frustrating “Why isn’t it happening yet?” season, sister, you are not alone. I’ve been there in the ache, in the questions, in the in-between of praying for a baby and trying to trust God’s timing. I want to talk about something that often hides in the background but makes a world of difference: low hormones.
On this podcast episode, I share parts of my story. After our first two boys, my husband and I walked through three back-to-back losses – our daughter Hannah at 15 weeks, and two early miscarriages we named Hope and Grace.
By that third loss, I was tired. Heartbroken. Confused. My doctor gently said, “We can do some tests if you want, but sometimes there just isn’t an answer.” But something in me stirred. A friend lovingly challenged me: “Bekah, you can find answers. You deserve to know what’s going on. Don’t stop here.” That conversation changed everything.
I began to learn how to chart my cycle, not just tracking dates on an app, but really learning what my body was saying through cervical mucus, temperatures, and symptoms. I studied the science and invited the Holy Spirit to meet me in it. And do you know what I found? My hormones were low. My body was trying, but it was struggling. It wasn’t that I couldn’t conceive, it was that my body wasn’t healthy enough to sustain life yet.
Once I started supporting my hormones, everything shifted. By God’s grace, our next pregnancy was healthy and full-term. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping other women uncover the same insights, because our hormones tell a story, and once we learn to read it, we can begin to heal.
When I talk about low hormones, I’m referring to imbalances in key reproductive hormones like estrogen and progesterone – the two that lead your body through ovulation, conception, and early pregnancy. These hormones don’t just affect fertility. They affect how you sleep, how you think, how you feel, and how your body functions day-to-day.
The good news? God designed your body with incredible communication systems. When something is off, your body tells you. You just have to learn its language. Here are three clear signs that low hormones might be impacting your conception, and what you can do about it.
If you’re new to cycle tracking, this one might sound a little awkward. But stay with me, because this is powerful. Cervical mucus is one of the most tangible indicators of hormonal health. During your fertile window, estrogen should rise and as it does, you’ll notice more clear, stretchy, egg-white-like mucus. That’s your body preparing for ovulation and making a hospitable path for sperm to reach the egg.
But if your estrogen is low, you might see:
In my early charts, I could tell something was off. My fertile days were inconsistent and sparse. Once I began learning through the FEMM method (Fertility Education & Medical Management), everything clicked. I finally had objective, clear tools to interpret what my body was showing me. That’s why I teach FEMM inside Fertility Framework, because knowledge is power when it’s submitted to the Lord. Once you know how to observe, you can begin to support your body instead of guessing what it needs.
Let’s talk about how you feel. God made your hormones to ebb and flow throughout your cycle, bringing energy, peace, and calm in balance. But when those hormones are low, the body starts waving little flags to get your attention. In the first half of your cycle (the follicular phase), you may notice:
Those are often signs of low estrogen. In the second half (the luteal phase), you may experience:
This may be the signs of low progesterone. It’s easy to brush these off as “normal” or “just hormones,” but these symptoms are your body’s built-in language. And I truly believe that sometimes the Holy Spirit uses these physical signals to get our attention. When we listen, we can begin to steward our health differently, not out of fear or striving, but out of reverence for the temple He entrusted to us.
This one’s big because ovulation is at the center of everything fertility-related. If your ovulation is weak, delayed, or inconsistent, conception and implantation become harder. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible (God can absolutely override biology!), but it does mean your body may be struggling to do what it’s designed to do. So how can you tell if your ovulation is healthy? That’s where charting comes in.
When we chart your cycle using an evidence-based method like FEMM, we can see patterns: is your ovulatory phase long enough? Is your body attempting to ovulate multiple times? Are your luteal phases consistently short (which can point to low progesterone)?
I’ve seen this with clients again and again: once they begin to chart and support their cycles, they start to notice healing long before they even conceive. Their sleep improves. Their energy returns. Their faith deepens because they finally understand what their body is saying. That’s the beauty of combining practical tools with prayerful surrender. This is something I highlight strongly in Fertility Framework. So often, we rush ahead in trying to solve our fertility issues, forgetting the One who is in control of it all and who wants to walk intimately with us through it. He is the healer.
If you’re reading this and realizing, “Oh my goodness, this might be me,” take a deep breath. There is so much hope. Here are a few gentle first steps to start stewarding your hormonal health:
I always tell my clients: the goal isn’t just to get pregnant. The goal is to get healthy enough for your body to be a peaceful, fertile home for new life, and to do it with the Lord, not apart from Him. We can’t force God’s timing, but we can be faithful with the knowledge He’s given us. And that’s where I believe true peace comes – not from control, but from stewardship.
Sometimes that means taking a break from trying to conceive while your body heals. Sometimes it means stepping forward in faith when you sense His peace. Either way, it’s about walking with Him every step of the way. If you would like to talk with someone about where you are at, I offer free 10-minute consults. I would love to chat with you!

Friend, your body is not your enemy. It’s a vessel God designed with intention – one that can heal, restore, and bring forth life in His time.
When you understand how your hormones work, you gain not just information but peace. You stop striving and start partnering with your body, with wisdom, and with the One who knit you together in the first place.
