169 | Why Your Doctor Missed This: Progesterone Tests That Could Change Everything

Progesterone is one of the most misunderstood hormones in women’s health, yet it is one of the most vital. If you’ve ever felt dismissed when asking about progesterone testing, you’re not alone. Many women leave appointments feeling unheard, confused, or unsure whether they’re allowed to ask deeper questions about their bodies. In this episode, we talk about why this happens, and where God meets us in it.

Progesterone is essential for implantation, early pregnancy, and maintaining the uterine lining. Without sufficient progesterone, pregnancy cannot be sustained. Yet despite its importance, progesterone is not routinely tested for first-time pregnancies in the U.S. In most cases, testing doesn’t happen unless a woman has experienced three or more miscarriages!

That reality can feel shocking and painful, especially for women who are trying to be proactive.

Most doctors are not taught to routinely evaluate progesterone during pregnancy or preconception. Medical education is structured around standardized protocols, and research often takes 40–50 years to make its way into training programs. Even though newer studies show how critical progesterone is in early pregnancy (especially before the placenta takes over), this information may not be part of your doctor’s education. That doesn’t mean your doctor is bad. It means the system is limited.

Your doctor’s residency, mentors, and continuing education shape how they practice medicine. Some doctors have additional training in fertility awareness methods or NaProTechnology. Others do not. Some value holistic, root-cause care. Others rely heavily on medication and intervention.

Neither is inherently wrong… but alignment matters.

Ask yourself:

  • Do my doctor’s values align with mine?
  • Are they willing to listen, learn, and collaborate?
  • Do I feel safe advocating for myself here?

Low progesterone is rarely the only issue. It’s your body waving a white flag and saying, “HEY! I need support.” Stress, inflammation, nutrient depletion, thyroid issues, and cycle dysfunction can all suppress progesterone production. Supporting the root cause before pregnancy is often critical.

This is exactly what we address inside Fertility Framework: restoring hormone balance naturally when possible, and discerning when bioidentical progesterone support is needed.

“By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations,
by understanding He set the heavens in place.”
—Proverbs 3:19

God designed your body with wisdom. Every cell, every hormone, every cycle was knit together intentionally.

You are allowed to ask questions.
You are allowed to seek support.
And you are allowed to build a care team that honors both science and faith.
