153 | The Wall of Remembrance: A Journey of Healing Through Faith and Hormones

It was late, the kids were asleep, and I stood in front of a blank wall with trembling hands. A hammer in one hand, a nail in the other, and a lump in my throat. For months I’d thought about this – the simple act of honoring our three babies in heaven: Hannah, Hope, and Grace. I finally hung a wreath, a cross, and a painting of Hannah. My friend had painted her as I imagine she might look in heaven – long curly brown hair, a red dress, and a field of sunflowers behind her.

Next to that painting, I hung another: an angel with wide wings, holding a baby close. And across those wings, I painted their names. That moment, the quiet ache of remembrance, is what inspired this podcast episode and this post. Because if you’ve ever lost a baby, you know that it changes the way you see things.

But I also want you to know this: there are steps you can take to help prevent miscarriage. Not to control the outcome, but to support the body God gave you so that it can flourish in His design.

After my first miscarriage, I didn’t know what to do. I assumed it was just “one of those things.”
But when it happened again, and again. Finally, I realized I needed to understand my body. That’s when I began charting my cycle through the FEMM method. I learned to take my basal body temperature (BBT) every morning, track cervical mucus, and note patterns that revealed how my hormones were functioning.

When your BBT is consistently below 97.1°F before ovulation, that can be a clue that your thyroid or metabolism might be sluggish. And when your luteal phase (the time between ovulation and your next period) is shorter than 10 days, it often means your progesterone is low. Low progesterone is one of the leading causes of early miscarriage. It’s the hormone that keeps your uterine lining “juicy” (yes, I said it!) and full of nutrients that feed a newly conceived baby. Without it, implantation struggles to hold.

In my course, Fertility Framework, I walk you through all of this: how to chart, how to understand what your body is trying to tell you, and how to understand what God says about fertility and His design for us as women. Learning these things changed everything for me. I finally realized that my losses weren’t random. My body was trying to tell me something.

Once I understood the basics of my cycle, I realized I needed help interpreting it. That’s where working with a fertility awareness instructor and hormone coach changed the game. Many OB/GYNs are wonderful, but they’re often not trained to read cycle charts. It’s simply not part of their medical education. If you’re working with someone who dismisses your questions or confuses fertility awareness with the “rhythm method,” it might be time to look elsewhere. A qualified charting expert can look at your cycle and say, “Hey, your luteal phase is too short,” or “This mucus pattern looks like low estrogen,” or “You may want to test your thyroid.”

That’s what I now do for the women I work with through the VIP track of Fertility Framework. We look at the full picture – hormones, thyroid, gut health, stress, sleep, and spiritual peace. They’re all connected. God didn’t design us as separate compartments. He made us whole with the body, mind, and spirit working together.

This part might be the hardest.

We live in a world that tells us “don’t wait.” That if you want something, go get it now. But in the area of fertility and miscarriage recovery, waiting can be one of the most faithful acts of obedience. Waiting to conceive until your body is ready doesn’t mean you’re weak or faithless. It means you’re stewarding what God has entrusted to you. And sometimes, He’ll give you a “green light” to go for it, even if everything isn’t perfect on paper. Other times, He’ll whisper, “Wait,” and that whisper will bring peace instead of striving. Both are holy. Because ultimately, God is sovereign over conception, over miscarriage, over every heartbeat that begins and every one that ends. Our job is to trust Him, honor the bodies He gave us, and walk faithfully in the wisdom He’s provided.

My prayer for you today, sister, is that the verse from Romans would be your reality; that you would overflow with hope, even in the waiting. If you’ve been through miscarriage, you’re not alone, even if it feels like you are. You might still avoid certain conversations or baby showers. You might feel like hope is too fragile to touch. But here’s the truth: hope never dies when it’s anchored in Christ.

Every time I see that angel painting on my wall, I’m reminded that our babies are not lost. They’re found in Him. They’re waiting, whole and radiant, in His presence. And I believe that as I continue to steward my body and trust His plan, He will redeem even this pain for His glory.

If God is stirring your heart to take a step forward, I would love to be able to walk alongside of you, hear your story and offer guidance. Fertility Framework has been a source of encouragement and support to many women all struggling with similar things in different ways. Come join us as we prayerfully grow towards healing and understanding God’s incredible design.

If you are not quite ready to jump right into the course, I also offer free 10-minute consults. I would love to pray with you and talk about next steps! You are not alone in this journey, sister.
