The holidays have a way of magnifying whatever season we’re in. For some, Christmas and New Year’s feel magical… but for many women trying to conceive, this season can feel heavy, exposing, and even painful. You walk into gatherings with a tender heart, and suddenly you’re surrounded by people who don’t quite know your story. A well-meaning aunt asks when you’re having kids. A cousin announces her pregnancy. A friend hands you her newborn, and something inside you aches a little deeper.
If you’ve ever felt isolated or unseen in this season, hear me: you are not alone. Jesus sees you. And He cares deeply about where your heart is right now.
On this episode of the podcast, we discuss how one of the most powerful ways to regain perspective in a tender season is to remember why we celebrate Christmas in the first place. We’re celebrating the greatest pregnancy, birth, and newborn the world has ever known – Jesus Christ. The miracle of Mary’s conception is a stunning reminder that God is not bound by human limitation. He can override the laws of nature itself. If God willed for a young, unmarried teenager to conceive the Son of God… how much more can we trust Him with our bodies, our wombs, and our timelines? Reflecting on Mary doesn’t erase our grief, but it anchors our hope. If God is faithful there, He is faithful here too.
Holiday gatherings often bring the questions we weren’t prepared for. “Any babies on the horizon?” “When are you two going to start a family?” One of the most powerful ways to guard your heart is to prepare it before you walk into a room.
A simple practice called Lectio Divina can help you enter the day grounded:
This gentle quiet time isn’t about analyzing Scripture deeply, it’s about letting Jesus speak peace over you before the world speaks anything else. There is an app called Lectio 365 that prays over you and leads you through Scripture. Take a look!
Proverbs 4:23 tells us, “Above all else, guard your heart.” Not everyone gets full access to your story. Not everyone is safe enough for your vulnerability. Part of guarding your heart is knowing who your “inner circle” is – those who pray with you, follow up with you, and love you well. For everyone else? A simple, gracious phrase like: “It’s in the Lord’s hands,” or “We trust God’s timing,” is enough. You’re not being rude. You’re stewarding your heart.
Jealousy, grief, irritation, comparison – these emotions can flare up quickly during the holidays. The only lasting protection against bitterness is staying rooted in Christ. Picture a massive tree with roots so deep and wide it would take ten people holding hands to wrap around it. That’s God – the tree of life.
We are small trees being grafted into Him. The more we abide in Christ, the more our roots intertwine with His. And the more we drift, the more room there is for bitterness or loneliness to take hold. Even simple time with Him, a breath prayer, a whispered verse, a moment of stillness, keeps your roots connected. This is one of the most powerful aspects of Fertility Framework – the recentring of our hearts and minds upon God and the abiding in His plans for our lives.
These two things can coexist. You can love Christmas and still ache. You can celebrate others and still long for your own miracle. Gratitude doesn’t cancel your grief… but it softens the soil of your heart. Try naming three things you’re thankful for each morning and evening. Not to “fix” your emotions, but to ground your soul in truth:
God has been faithful.
God is faithful.
And God will be faithful.
