When you’re trying to conceive, waiting can feel like the hardest part. Whether it’s been five months, five years, or a painful string of losses, the question haunts your heart: How do I trust God’s timing when it feels like nothing is happening?
You’re not alone, sister. The struggle between faith and frustration has been around since the beginning. In this blog, we’ll look at two women, Sarah and Rebekah, whose fertility journeys are written into Scripture. Their stories, though thousands of years old, are strikingly relevant to the heartache and hope we hold today.
This verse invites us into surrender. When we stop demanding to understand, and instead open our hands in trust, He promises to make the path straight. That doesn’t always mean quick or easy—but it’s always guided by His love.
When we meet Sarah (originally Sarai) in Genesis 12, we’re immediately told that she’s barren. From the start, her identity is marked by childlessness—even as her husband, Abram, is being promised descendants as numerous as the stars.
Can you imagine how that must have felt? Your husband keeps hearing from God about how he’ll father a great nation… but your womb is silent. Your body is broken. And with every passing month, the hope fades just a little more.
Eventually, Sarah’s pain led her to a desperate decision: she handed her maidservant Hagar to Abraham to conceive in her place (Genesis 16). It wasn’t God’s design—but in her anguish, Sarah reached for control.
Haven’t we all been there?
The supplements, the charts, the interventions—we pile them on, grasping for anything that will make it happen. But Scripture reminds us there’s a royal way—God’s way. It’s often slower, sometimes confusing, but always meant to glorify Him.
Years passed, and then… God showed up. With a word that seemed laughable. At nearly 90 years old, Sarah was promised a son (Genesis 18). And a year later, Isaac was born.

Sarah’s daughter-in-law Rebekah also walked through infertility, waiting 20 years to conceive. But unlike Sarah, we don’t see Rebekah trying to take matters into her own hands. There’s no mention of manipulation or control.
Instead, Scripture simply tells us that Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. The Lord answered his prayer, and Rebekah became pregnant… with twins (Genesis 25:21).
What a beautiful picture of quiet endurance, marital unity, and the power of intercessory prayer.
Maybe you’re Rebekah in this season—waiting, aching, but choosing to trust. Or maybe you relate more to Sarah—grappling with despair and needing a reminder to let go and surrender the wheel.
Wherever you are, there’s room for you at God’s feet.
Waiting doesn’t mean you’re forgotten. Sarah waited 75 years. Rebekah waited 20. Both were chosen, loved, and used by God.
It’s okay to wrestle. Sarah laughed in disbelief. God didn’t abandon her. He still fulfilled His promise.
There’s blessing in surrender. God’s royal way leads to His glory. Even when it feels like He’s late, He is right on time.
